2025 Fair Queen Clinic

Ever wondered what it took to be the Fair Queen?
Join us on Saturday, January 4th, 2025 for the Fair Queen Clinic and learn all about the Fair Queen Program and what it means to be the Fair Queen.
Get the chance to talk to former Fair Queens, ask questions and hone your interviewing skills. This is also a great opportunity to get to know our Queen Team Coordinator Kate Johnson and Amanda Hensen.

The 2025 Fair Queen Clinic will be held in Swink Hall at the El Paso County Fairgrounds.

2025 El Paso County Fair Queen

Gretta Dickson is the 18 year old daughter of Pete Dickson and Erika Bakko. She is a senior at the Village High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado graduating in the Spring of 2025. Gretta has been riding horses since she was 5 years old participating in 4-H and extensive training in both English and Western riding. Gretta was a Pikes Peak Rangerette for 3 years, serving as a Co-Captain in 2024. She continues to find passion in riding and connecting with her horses. In the future, Gretta plans to attend college and continue her equine education. Gretta is excited to share her love for the western way of life during her time as El Paso County Fair Queen.

2024 El Paso County Fair Queen

Maddy Norton is the 17 year old daughter of Kristen & Jeff Norton of Colorado Springs. She is a senior at Lewis Palmer High School. Maddy has participated in cheerleading, Interscholastic Equestrian Association, reining, break-away roping, and was a member of the Pikes Peak Rangerettes Drill Team. In the future, Maddy wants to get a degree in Marketing & Graphic Design from University of Wyoming while competing on their rodeo team. Maddy is excited to promote the western lifestyle and the 2024 El Paso County Fair.

2023 El Paso County Fair Queen

Aneka Normandie is the 17-year-old daughter of Kristin Stites and Rich Normandie of Peyton, CO. She is a recent graduate of Peyton High School where she was the captain of the varsity volleyball team and is the Vice President of her class. Aneka proudly lettered academically all four years of high school. Aneka was a member of El Paso County Hearts and Hooves 4H club for 8 years where she also served as secretary and treasurer. She was also a member of the Pikes Peak Rangerettes for 4 years and was captain for the 2022 season. Aneka has multiple other equine achievements including her most recent, the APHA youth champion at the 2023 National Western Stock Show. In the future, Aneka plans to get a degree in communications and journalism with a minor in agriculture from Colorado State University.

2022 El Paso County Fair Queen

Makena Norton is the 18 year old daughter of Kristen and Jeff Norton. She is a recent graduate of Lewis Palmer High School where she participated in many activities including Poms Dance Team, Theatre, and the Interscholastic Equestrian Association. Makena is a current member of the Pikes Peak Rangerettes Drill team riding her Quarter Horse, Herbie. Makena will be attending the University of Wyoming where she'll be studying Communications with an emphasis on Agriculture. Makena is honored to be an ambassador for the western and agricultural heritage that lives strong in El Paso County.

2021 El Paso County Fair Queen

Madyson Buhring, from Calhan Colorado, is your 2021 El Paso County Fair Queen. Madyson is a current student at the Colorado Institute of Massage Therapy. She’s a former 4-Her, she was part of the Hearts N Hoofs 4-H club, holding various officer positions. She showed both in the horse project as well as miniature donkeys.

2020 El Paso County Fair Queen

Sydney Nicole Nelson is the 2020 El Paso County Fair Queen. She is the 19-year old daughter of Bill and Emily Nelson of the Black Forest. Sydney is a 2019 graduate of Pine Creek High School. She just completed her Freshman year of college at UCCS, where she is majoring in Geography and Environmental Studies. She is working on becoming a certified Sign Language Interpreter.

Sydney was born at Eglin AFB in Florida and grew up in a military community. She became more involved in horse activities since moving to Colorado, competing in gymkhanas, horse shows and equestrian drill teams. Her high school activities included member of the Arts and ASL Honor Society, Leader in Sources of Strength, a community building and suicide prevention club, Manager of the 2018-19 JV and Varsity Hockey teams, Secretary of the Table Top Gaming Club, Member of the Tennis team and Captain of the JV Tennis team her senior year. Sydney graduated Cum Laude from Pine Creek HS with a 4.0 GPA, getting all A’s her senior year. She earned the 2018-19 Western Pleasure buckle at the Latigo Winter Buckle Series, and 1st Place Amateur Art at the 2012 Colorado State Fair

Sydney was a member of the Pikes Peak Rangerettes for 6 years, and is captain of the Top Hands Drill Team. She was the 2019 Ute Trail Stampede Queen. She has 2 American Quarter horses, named Thor and Rango.

2019 El Paso County Fair Queen

Mallory Link is the 2019 El Paso County Fair Queen. She is the 18-year old daughter of Suzan McCoy of Peyton and Dean Link of Kiowa. Mallory has just completed her Freshman year at Western Colorado University in Gunnison. She will be transferring to the University of Wyoming in the fall, where she plans to graduate with a degree in Business Marketing. She hopes to enter the agriculture field to educate the general public about the importance of farming and ranching to the entire world.
Mallory participated in 4H for 10 years and in FFA for 2 years. Her projects in 4H included cattle, sheep, pigs, working ranch horse, western riding, and halter classes, livestock judging, and cattle fitting contest, Decorate your Duds and Fashion Review. Her school activities included volleyball, basketball, Student Council, and the Play Production. Her offices in high school were 4H Club President, in 2018, Student Council President in 2017, Vice President in 2018, FFA Club Secretary2017, Vice President 2018, American Aberdeen Association Secretary 2017. Mallory was awarded the FFA Green Hand Award, the Gabehart 3.0-3.5 Honor Roll High School and College Award. Her horse is named Lacy.

2018 Fair Queen

Cheyenne Desire Holt is the 2018 El Paso County Fair Queen. She is the 19 year old daughter of Jennifer and Dan Carlson of Peyton, CO.Cheyenne attended public school, then took online classes and subsequently graduated from the Colorado Connections Academy in 2017.She has just completed her Freshman year at Pikes Peak Community College, working toward a degree as a paramedic/ EMT.She plans to continue her education to become an anesthesiologist.

Cheyenne participated in 4-H for 9 years.Her projects included Horse, Market Lamb, Breeding Lamb, Dog, Cat, Cavy, Market Rabbits, Breeding Rabbits, Miniature Horse, Dairy Goats, Scrapbooking, and Vet Science .At the club level, she was President for 2 years, Secretary for 4 years, and Historian for 1 year.She has been the Community Council Secretary for 1 year and was on the Horse Advisory Committee as Secretary for 1 year.Her awards include Senior Level 2 Horse Program Reserve High Point in2016 and 2017.She won El Paso County Fair Small Animal Master Showman.Also in 2016, she received Grand Champion Senior Showman for mini-horse at the Fair. Cheyenne feels like she has been riding horses all her life.We think she actually began riding when she was about 2 years old.


2017 FAIR QUEEN

Kayla Marie Summers was selected as the 2017 El Paso County Fair Queen on March 18, 2017 at the El Paso County Fair and Events Complex. She was one of four excellent contestants. The Contest consists of four areas of competition: Application, Horsemanship, Personal Interview and Speech, all evaluated by a panel of three judges.

Kayla, an El Paso County native, is the 18 year old daughter of Suzanne Summers and Brian Summers. She was a 2016 graduate of The Classical Academy and is now completing her freshman year at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. She is pursuing a degree in Biological Sciences with an emphasis on Pre-Health and a minor in Chemistry. She hopes to achieve a Master’s Degree as a Physician’s Assistant.
She was a member of Kit Carson 4H Club for 11 years, beginning with Cloverbud for 4 years completing the projects of rubber stamping and leathercraft projects, then 7 years in the Horse Project while studying Horse Bowl and Hippology. She held the offices of Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Historian for her 4H club. She was a member of the Pikes Peak Rangerettes for 5 years including the positions of Captain and Co-Captain. Her awards include graduating cum Laude as a member of National Honor Society. She is now a Daniel’s Fund Scholar. Kayla was the Rangerette of the Year for 2015-2016 and 2014 Senior Showman Champion in 4H. Kayla has been riding for 10 years and has her own horse, Abigail. She plans to continue her involvement in equine professionalism while competing in local rodeos and keeping the western tradition alive.

2016 Fair Queen

Quillan Edwards, was named the 2016 El Paso County Fair Queen March 25, 2016. To earn the title of Fair Queen Edwards completed successfully in categories that included public speaking, horsemanship and a personal interview. Quillans is the 18 year old daughter of Brett and Kelly Edwards of Colorado Springs. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 2015 and is currently a freshman at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, pursuing a major in Psychology. Quillan plans on continuing her education by earning a Master's Degree in Psychology, and give back to our nation's veterans. During her time in high school Quillan participated in varsity cheerleading at both Air Academy and St. Mary's High School. She was team captain on various competitive Irish dance teams, competing at local, state and national levels. She participated in an internship with Ducy's Horse Training at Latigo. Quillan also competed in various horse shows in the area, winning ribbons and high point awards at the Latigo Winter Buckle Series. She currently has an internship at CO Equine Vet Services.
